Darte Publishing House will be a protagonist at the Florence Biennale Internazionale dell’Antiquariato (BIAF), which will be held from September 28 to October 6, 2024 in the charming Palazzo Corsini. This prestigious event, among the world’s most important events for art and antiques, will be an opportunity to present two extraordinary publishing proposals that combine critical philology and historical research: “Cecco Bravo” by Francesca Baldassari and “Rome 1618. Gian Lorenzo Bernini and the San Sebastiano Aldobrandini” by Maichol Clemente.
“Rome 1618. Gian Lorenzo Bernini and the San Sebastiano Aldobrandini” by Maichol Clemente
The publishing project presented by Darte Editrice is the result of an exceptional discovery: an early work by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, the celebrated master of the Roman Baroque. Maichol Clemente’s study focuses on a precious “Saint Sebastian” made by Bernini in 1618 for the Aldobrandini family. This publishing project promises to be a landmark publication for studies on the artist and the Baroque period, bringing to light a very rare work that adds new perspectives on the youth of Bernini’s genius.
“Cecco Bravo” by Francesca Baldassari
A two-volume box set dedicated to Cecco Bravo, a master of seventeenth-century Florentine art (Florence, 1601 – Innsbruck, 1660). The author, Francesca Baldassari, one of the most authoritative scholars of the Italian Baroque, offers us a philological reading of the highest level, the fruit of the best Italian critical tradition, the one derived from the teaching of Roberto Longhi. Through an in-depth study of Cecco Bravo’s works and drawings, the two volumes trace the entire artistic career of this talented painter and draftsman. A work that illuminates the fascinating path of an artist who is often underestimated but deserves to be counted among the greats of his time.
Presentations and speakers
The two works will be presented during special events at BIAF. On Sept. 30, Maichol Clemente’s volume will be presented at 11 a.m., with the participation of:
