The desire of every collector is to share his emotions, his path of study and knowledge with the public.
This is how the publication Black Moyo (Black Heart) was born. A collection in which each piece has been carefully chosen, to tell the story of a journey on tiptoe, in a world so complex and illegible with western criteria, that it can never be fully understood. A very personal story, transcended with the sensitivity of the collector and conveyed with his own language. Like an architect who looks, imagines and creates.
This volume is the Ariadne apos’s thread of a journey through the different cultures of the sub-Saharan continent. An attempt to understand so many different artistic expressions, characterised by a single set of reference values that rhythms the daily life of each individual, but not only. Values that refer to rites of passage, social changes within the community, religion and orders of belief in general. These works are very contemporary: they convey the dialectic of a thought, of a universal system of values, weaving an intense link between tribal and modern, a value system that expresses the fundamental stages of the existence of each of us, from the mists of time to modernity: being born, living, dying.
Following the same impulse that made up this collection, with its publication, more than a manual or catalogue – which arranges the works in categories (form, technique, material or place of origin), grouping them together in a mnemonic way – it aims to be an encounter with the tangible expression of religious, artistic and cultural inspiration in its intrinsic search for dialogue with spiritual and esoteric forces of unquestionable charm and beauty, which each of us grasps in a different way.
They are very complex cultural expressions, which escape rational understanding but are intuitively grasped as ancestral archetypes, universal symbols.
Black Moyo is the end of a twenty-year journey, performed in constant relation to the diversity and representation of the archetypes, in the search for a unique thought, full of meanings and symbologies, which now leads to the birth of a museum, as a sharing of the universality of the human being.
